Mice and Rats

Gnawing mammals like mice and rats have long beenan annoying pest to home owners. These rodents willeat a wide variety of foods and have adapted over theyears to take advantage of living with humans. Bothmice and rats can be very destructive to property andmay carry disease. Entrance to a building is often madeby enlarging existing holes or cracks in an effort to findfood and shelter. Mice and rats are smart and may bedifficult to control once a population is established.

DAMAGE AND MONITORINGThe presence of rodents is easily detected by signs ofchewing damage, fecal droppings (often found incupboards or storage areas) or by squeaks, chirps orgnawing sounds coming from within walls and ceilings.In the case of rats, dark grease marks (from their furrubbing up against something) may be seen onfrequently traveled runs. Occasionallyrodents will be seen as they travel atnight in search of food. Rodents willchew or gnaw on almost anything. Theywill also chew to gain entrance to adwelling and may create a lot ofdamage. Many unexplained fires havebeen caused by rodents chewing on electrical wiring. Inaddition to chewing damage, food and food supplies canbecome contaminated when urine and feces aredeposited on it by rodents. The fecal droppings of miceare 1/4 inch (6 mm) long with pointed ends while ratdroppings are 3/4 inch (19 mm) long andoblong-shaped. Flea infested rodents may alsointroduce a flea infestation to a pet or dwelling. Exercisecare when approaching a rodent as they have beenknown to bite people.

Crickets

Cricket populations are at their highest at the end of summer, and with the beginning of cooler nights, the crickets begin to move indoors. They come inside looking for moisture, water, food and harborage. Crickets can cause damage to homes, equipment and textiles such as wool, silk and fur. A large cricket population is also an invitation to a number of other pests who consume them as food.

Treatment
1. Seal entry points around the house, such as door thresholds, windows and cracks.

2. Reduce moisture sources around and inside house.

3. Eliminate harborage around the house, such as firewood and tall weeds.

Stink Bugs!

Pod of Stink Bugs

This time of the year stink bugs will be everywhere. They hide behind siding,trim, and piles of debris around the home in pods to keep warm. During the day they will emerge when it is warm and you will see them inside and outside of the home. Barrier has a few different ways to control stink bugs. Although they are tough to get rid of Barrier has been extremly successful taking care of these problem pests.
